What is AI voice agent?

An AI voice agent is software that holds a spoken phone conversation with a person, understanding what they say and replying in a synthetic voice, without a human on the line.
It joins three parts in a loop: speech recognition turning the caller's audio into text, a language model deciding what to say next, and text-to-speech saying it. The quality people actually notice is not the voice — it is how quickly the loop closes and whether it stops talking when interrupted.
Why it matters for Indian calling. In India the deciding factor is rarely fluency. It is whether the agent handles a caller who switches language mid-sentence and speaks a regional variety rather than textbook Telugu or Hindi.
