What is Latency?
Also called: response time
Latency in a voice agent is the delay between the caller finishing a sentence and the agent starting to answer.
It accumulates across the whole chain — recognition, the model's reply, speech synthesis, and the network carrying the call. Beyond roughly a second and a half of silence the caller assumes the line has dropped and says hello.
Why it matters for Indian calling. Rural Indian mobile connections add delay the software cannot control, so a system with no margin in good conditions falls apart in the districts where calling matters most.
